Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that a total of 117 hotels & guesthouses were open for business in September 2020, a decrease of 4 year-on-year; number of available guest rooms dropped by 9.9% to 35,000. Data on hotels & guesthouses used for medical observation were excluded in the compilation of the following statistics. The average occupancy rate of guest rooms declined by 67.9 percentage points year-on-year to 16.7%, with the rates of 3-star hotels (25.0%) and 4-star hotels (21.8%) decreasing by 60.0 percentage points and 61.4 percentage points respectively.

A total of 212,000 guests checked into hotels & guesthouses in September, representing a decline of 81.0% year-on-year. Attributable to the resumption of exit endorsements for Mainland residents to travel to Macao, guests from mainland China soared by 197.9% month-to-month to 131,000; yet, the figure still represented a year-on-year slump of 82.6%. As the summer holiday ended in August, the number of local guests dropped by 49.1% month-to-month to 63,000, which marked a year-on-year increase of 25.4%. Meanwhile, the average length of stay of guests held steady year-on-year at 1.5 nights.

In the first three quarters of 2020, the average occupancy rate of guest rooms fell by 68.0 percentage points year-on-year to 22.8%. The number of guests of hotels & guesthouses dipped by 77.4% to 2,379,000, whereas their average length of stay went up by 0.2 night to 1.7 nights.

As Mainland residents were still not permitted to travel on outbound package tours in September, no inbound package tour visitors to Macao were recorded in the month; the number of visitors joining local tours was 300. In addition, outbound residents using services of travel agencies totalled 3,900, and 3,300 (84.6%) of them went to mainland China. In the first three quarters of 2020, there were 253,000 package tour visitors, a decline of 96.3% year-on-year; outbound residents using services of travel agencies fell by 93.0% to 94,000.
