Macao has seen a rebound in visitor arrivals in recent days. A total of 189,843 visitor arrivals were registered over the past week (20 — 26 March) with an average daily volume of 27,120 visitors, which surged by 109.5% and 77.8% compared with the average daily visitor arrivals during the Spring Festival Golden Week (12,947) and February (15,254) respectively. The past week (spanning from Saturday to the ensuing Friday) also marks the highest weekly record of visitor arrivals since the outbreak of COVID-19 last year.

Highest daily record of visitor arrivals

On 26 March (Friday), visitor arrivals rose year-on-year by 1309% to hit the highest daily volume of 32,647, which not only exceeded the record of 32,016 visitor arrivals registered last Saturday (20 March) but also marks the highest daily record of visitor arrivals since the start of the pandemic.

The average length of visitors’ stay rose by 0.3 day from January to 1.9 days in February. The average length of stay of overnight-stay visitors was 3.2 days, up by 0.2 day from January, whereas that of same-day visitors stood at 0.1 day.

The figures suggest a steady upward trend in visitor arrivals recently, while a greater flow of visitors can be observed in local tourist districts. As the pandemic situation remains stable in the Mainland and Macao, all Mainland visitors are now exempt from quarantine in Macao following the reinstatement of travel permit issuance for Mainland residents to Macao. Given the above situation, Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) seizes the opportunity to unfold an array of online and offline promotions tailored for the Mainland market and continuously spotlight Macao as a healthy, safe and quality destination, with the aim to stimulate a gradual rebound in visitor arrivals and steady recovery of the tourism industry.
