Last week, Macao Polytechnic Institute launched series of activities for “MPI Careers Day 2021”. More than 70 enterprises in Macao and the Greater Bay Area participated in the online and offline career fairs, and provided over 2,000 employment and internship opportunities, which attracted more than 1,500 prospective graduates and students to the on-site enquiry and registration. Moreover, more than a dozen career talks were held, over 500 students felt interested and took part in the activities. Through all these activities, MPI aims at enhancing students’ competitive edge, assisting prospective graduates in their career development and at the same time getting to know more about the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. It is hoped that students will grab the opportunity to equip themselves and contribute to the progress of Macao and the Greater Bay Area.

Representatives from the Labour Affairs Bureau, Direcção dos Serviços de Administração e Função Pública, Economic and Technological Development Bureau, Nansha Youth Federation of Guangzhou, Macau Greater Bay Area Human Resources Association and other enterprises were invited to hold talks with topics of interview strategies, job-hunting skills, job analysis, talent demand, employment and entrepreneurship welfare policies for Macao youth in the Greater Bay Area, as well as entrepreneurship and innovation. The instructors from MPI-Bell Centre of English organised résumé writing and English mock interview workshops for students to prepare them for job seeking. One of the participants in the talks, a student of the Computing programme, said that during the pandemic, the application of information technology is becoming more common, hotels, banks, gambling and other industries provide job opportunities that match their profession, and he had attended the talks to learn more about the development and promotion prospects of different industries. Another graduating student from the Chinese-English Translation and Interpretation Programme, who attended the career talk titled Internship, Employment, and Entrepreneurship in Nansha, said that he had benefited a lot from the “Summer Internship Programme in Hengqin”, so he hoped to get to know more about the employment and internship opportunities in the other Greater Bay Area cities.

MPI has long been concerned about the growth and development of university students. Career talks have been held to allow students to interact with enterprises in real time, to gain insight of the market dynamics and the latest industry news, so as to establish students’ employment direction, equip themselves to strengthen their competitiveness and meet the development opportunities of the new era.

The participating organisations of the career talks include (in no particular order): Direcção dos Serviços de Administração e Função Pública, Labour Affairs Bureau, Economic and Technological Development Bureau, Nansha Youth Federation of Guangzhou, Macau Greater Bay Area Human Resources Association, Galaxy Entertainment Group, Suncity Group Ltd, Banco Delta Asia S.A., Macau 853 Mask Factory, Loksophy Design Ltd, Savills (Macau) Limited, New Yaohan, and AXA China Region Insurance Company (Bermuda) Limited.
