Recently, the Commissioner of the Commission Against Corruption (CCAC) of Macao, Chan Tsz King, and the Commissioner of the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) of Hong Kong, Simon Peh Yun-lu, held a meeting through videoconferencing and exchanged views on the works of integrity building of Macao and Hong Kong. According to Chan Tsz King, Macao and Hong Kong will hold their own election for legislative members this year and many challenges are lying ahead of them due to factors such as the pandemic. The CCAC hoped that it would draw on the experience of Hong Kong in terms of promotion work to fight and prevent electoral bribery. It would also strive to effectively perform the duties to ensure that the Legislative Assembly Elections will be conducted in a clean and fair manner.

At the meeting Chan Tsz King introduced the CCAC’s work and the results achieved for over a year since he took office, including recruiting more staff for the investigation teams and the effectiveness of its promotion of real-name reports. Pointing out that mutual case assistance between the two regions did not cease in spite of the pandemic, he hoped that interaction between their personnel will resume gradually when the development of the pandemic becomes stable.

Simon Peh Yun-lu also introduced the development of the ICAC in recent years, including actively joining a few international anti-corruption organisations, holding international conferences and co-organising training programmes with the International Association of Anti-Corruption Authorities (IAACA).

The two commissioners also discussed and exchanged views on cooperation in integrity building in the Greater Bay Area and among Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao. Participants of the videoconference also included Ao Ieong Seong, Deputy Commissioner cum Deputy Director of the Anti-Corruption Bureau, Chan In Chio, Chief of the Cabinet and Yau Shu Chun, Head of Operations of the ICAC.
