Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that a total of 120 hotels & guesthouses were open for business in October 2020, down by 1 year-on-year; number of available guest rooms dropped by 7.8% to 35,000. Data on hotels & guesthouses used for medical observation were excluded in the compilation of the results. The average occupancy rate of guest rooms stood at 40.0%, representing a month-to-month growth of 22.9 percentage points and yet a year-on-year decrease of 48.3 percentage points; besides, the rate of 3-star hotels was 51.1%.

A total of 438,000 guests checked into hotels & guesthouses in October, indicating    a decline of 62.8% year-on-year. Guests from mainland China surged by 168.1%             month-to-month to 358,000; however, the figure still showed a year-on-year drop of 56.1%. On the other hand, the number of local guests grew by 13.6% year-on-year to 57,000. Meanwhile, the average length of stay of guests increased by 0.2 night year-on-year to 1.7 nights.

From January to October this year, the average occupancy rate of guest rooms fell by 66.0 percentage points year-on-year to 24.6%. The number of guests of hotels & guesthouses dipped by 76.0% year-on-year to 2,819,000, whereas their average length of stay went up by 0.2 night to 1.7 nights.

There were no inbound package tour visitors in October, while the number of visitors joining local tours was 5,000. In addition, outbound residents using services of travel agencies totalled 6,900, and 6,600 (95.7%) of them went to mainland China. From January to October 2020, a total of 258,000 package tour visitors were recorded, a decline of 96.5% year-on-year; outbound residents using services of travel agencies tumbled by 93.2% to 101,000.
