A team of IFTM students from the English Speech and Debate Society (ESDS) was awarded the First Runner-Up at the 10th “Shangjiao” Business Presentation Contest held at the City University of Macau on November 8, 2020.

The four eloquent students, Sofia Lam, Eva Lin, Sisy Long and Gavin Mak, proposed solutions to the plastic problem in Macao and came up with a business plan that involves a “floating museum” and a recycling app called “EVRecycle”. The proposal connects marine monitoring, public education, social networking data, used plastic processing and trading of different types of recycled raw plastic materials. All of these were showcased by means of a mobile app demonstration. After a 15-minute business presentation, they responded to critical questions raised by other contestants.

With the theme “Smart City”, the Greater-Bay-Area-wide competition was organised by the Linguistic Society of Macao. The students’ preparation was done under the guidance of Mr Wilson Hong and Ms Rachel Peralta, the ESDS Moderators.

The IFTM team was among the three teams that were highly regarded by the judges. The other two teams were from higher institutes of other Greater-Bay-Area cities.
