WTT Macao 2020, organized by the Sports Bureau of the Macao SAR Government and World Table Tennis (WTT), co-organized by Macau Table Tennis General Association, and presented by Galaxy Entertainment Group, will be held from 25 to 29 November. The draw ceremony for the event was held today, where players learnt their fate ahead of the next five days of drama that will unfold at the Tap Seac Multisport Pavilion. Guest attending the draw ceremony including: Pun Weng Kun, President of the Sports Bureau; Liu Guoliang, WTT Council Chair; Steve Dainton, WTT Director and International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) CEO; Francis Lui, Vice Chairman of Galaxy Entertainment Group; and players Ma Long and Ding Ning from China, Mattias Falck from Sweden and Lily Zhang from the USA, amongst others.

World’s best table tennis players gather in Macao

WTT Macao 2020 gathers the current world’s top players competing in the men’s and women’s singles.  Over the first two days of action (24-25 November), the top four seeds will each play two matches to determine the order of seeds for the quarter-finals. Day One will see the top seed face off against seed 4, with seed 2 taking on seed 3. From those matches, there will be follow-up encounters on Day Two between the two winners and between the two losers from Day One. 

Players ranked 9-16 were drawn randomly to play one another in elimination matches, carried out on Day One for the right to advance to Day Two. The winners from Battle One will then advance to Battle Two, on Thursday 26 November, where they will face players ranked 5-8. The contests will be arranged as follows (name and seed number):

Strict anti-pandemic measures are implemented

The players and staff are in Macao for the event have been in China since October and have already undergone a 14-day quarantine. They have since taken part in the Dishang 2020 ITTF Men’s and Women’s World Cup in Weihai, Shandong and the 2020 ITTF Finals in Zhengzhou, Henan between the 8 and 22 November. The players and staff have had stayed in Mainland China for over 14 days before entering Macao, and shown a valid negative nucleic acid test result before granted permission to enter Macao. During the competition period, they must also comply with the anti-pandemic guidelines and regulations set by the Macao health authorities. In addition, the organizers will require all individuals entering the competition venue to undergo body temperature checks, to present a valid “Macao Health Code” and to wear face masks at all times.

Tickets on sale at Tap Seac Multisport Pavilion

Tickets can be bought on-site at the Tap Seac Multisport Pavilion for matches from 25 to 29 November, which are valid only for the designated date with free-seating. Macao residents, students and seniors aged 65 years or above are entitled to discounts to purchase at in-store and on-site ticketing counters. Ticket prices are as follows:
