The 2020 Graduation Ceremony of Macao Institute for Tourism Studies (IFTM) was held today (23 October 2020) at Tap Seac Multisport Pavilion. Ceremony was officiated by Ms. Ao Ieong U, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, Representative of Chief Executive of Macao SAR, Mr. Chan Chak Mo, Chairman of the IFTM Council and Dr. Fanny Vong, President of IFTM. The Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government, the Office of the Commissioners of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, legislative council members, government officials, high school representatives, scholarship sponsors, representatives of the tourism and hospitality industry, parents and faculty members were invited to attend this ceremony. There are 399 graduates of this year's diploma and bachelor's degree programmes.

At the Graduation Ceremony, Ms. Ao Ieong U, Secretary for Social Affairs expressed Macao Government fully affirmed the contribution of Macao Institute for Tourism Studies to the cultivation of professional talents in Macao, and the Institute has achieved fruitful results, which has been recognised by the industry and society. It is hoped that the Institute will continue with its advantages to further consolidate the international status of Macao's tourism education and training, and strive to cultivate more outstanding talents with national sentiments, social responsibilities, and competitiveness, and make greater contributions to national construction and Macao's development. At the same time, it is hoped that all graduates will grasp the development advantages and opportunities brought by the Greater Bay Area, broaden their horizons and show their talents.

IFTM continues to establish its partnerships with education institutions, tourism organisations and research bodies worldwide. IFTM’s network of collaborating universities and tourism organisations spans more than 30 countries and regions, with 150-plus partners. This helps enhance human resource development in Macao, make valuable contribution to the sustainable development of the tourism and hospitality industry of Macao.

Under the challenge of the COVID-19, IFTM will continue to review its countermeasures for the pandemic, while working ceaselessly to ensure a quality educational experience. With the application of technology, IFTM ensures internationalisation continues to be a mainstay at IFTM. This adaptation includes offering exchange programmes in online format, promoting usage of video conferencing for international training, and boosting cooperation with partner institutions. This also allows students to continue their internationalised study journey while ensuring their safety.

Additionally, the national flag-raising ceremony has been held at IFTM Mong-Há Campus on the graduation day, aiming to enhance the sense of national identity of students and staff members and to cultivate patriotism towards Mainland and Macao.
