Tropical storm Higos is forecasted to further intensify and continuously move in a northwest direction toward the coast between Zhuhai and Maoming with a faster speed. Because the movement path of Higos is closer to Macao than expected, Higos will come closest to Macao around early morning tomorrow at a distance of about 100 km. Higos may further intensify when approaching the coast, and it will affect Macao more significantly. The wind in Macao will substantially intensify between tonight and tomorrow morning, with easterly winds reaching level 7-9 with gusts. There will be frequent heavy showers and thunderstorms.
Since Higos has changed to a more northerly path in the last few hours, together with the possibility that it may further intensify, Higos may cause more significant flooding to Macao. SMG has raised the Storm Surge Warning level from yellow to orange at 8:30pm tonight. It is forecasted that there will be severe flooding in low-lying areas between 5am and 12pm tomorrow morning, and the highest flooding level is expected to be between 1 and 1.5 meters. The public are advised to take preventive measures against the wind and flooding ahead of time, and pay close attention to the latest weather news of SMG.
Remarks: The probabilities of issuing severe weather warning signals for the next one or two days are provided in the table. Public can learn the possibility of being affected by the tropical cyclone over the specific period of time in Macao so that necessary precautions can be well prepared earlier.
