It is forecasted that tropical storm Higos will further intensify and continuously move in a northwest direction toward the coast of western Guangdong with a faster speed. It is forecasted that Higos may take a more northerly path than expected and will come closest to Macao at a distance of 150km, and it may further intensify as it approaches the coast. Affected by the circulation of Higos, the wind in Macao will significantly intensify between tonight (18th) and tomorrow (19th), and there will be heavy showers with strong winds and thunderstorms.
Due to the astronomical tide and its combined influence with the storm surge, there will be flooding in low-lying areas in the morning of August 19th. The highest flooding level is expected to be between 0.5 and 1 meter. The public are advised to take preventive measures against the wind and flooding, and pay close attention to the latest weather news of SMG.
