The Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) Government has formed delegations to participate in – as well as attend – the 2nd China International Import Expo (CIIE), in Shanghai from 5 to 10 November 2019.

The aim is to make use of this international platform to demonstrate – at the same time the 20th anniversary of the founding of the Macao SAR is being celebrated – the successful implementation in Macao of the “One country, two systems” principle.

Macao’s organising of exhibition booths at CIIE also helps promote Macao’s positioning as a world centre of tourism and leisure, as well as its role as a commercial and trade cooperation service platform between China and Portuguese-speaking countries (collectively known as “Centre and Platform” policies); and the city’s consistent role as an important gateway between China and the rest of the world.

CIIE is being jointly hosted by the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China, and the Shanghai Municipal People's Government. The World Trade Organization, the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development, and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization are organising partners for the event.

CIIE consists of an expo and a forum. The expo includes a section called the Country Pavilion for Trade and Investment, and one called the Enterprise and Business Exhibition. The forum is titled the 2nd Hongqiao International Economic and Trade Forum. The Macao SAR Government and some of its departments set up exhibition booths and attend the forum during the expo period.

The Macao SAR Government has a Macao exhibition area within the China Pavilion of the Country Pavilion for Trade and Investment. Arrangements for the area – titled “Macao Hub” – are being organised by the Government Information Bureau.

The “Macao Hub” exhibition area has video-monitor equipment, to play videos and virtual reality-based interactive installations in order to demonstrate Macao’s unique charms and capabilities in terms of being a “Centre and Platform” and as a UNESCO-designated “Creative City of Gastronomy”.

Visitors to CIIE are able – via access to photographs, written materials, videos and interactive materials – to gain fresh insights regarding Macao society’s achievements in social and economic development; and the city’s proactive effort to integrate itself into the country’s overall development. Visitors are also able to take a virtual walk through Macao streets via digital equipment installed on site.

In addition, the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) and the Cultural Industry Fund have also made arrangements for a number of local industries to participate in the Enterprise and Business Exhibition at CIIE.

IPIM has arranged for Macao food and beverage enterprises to take part – as exhibitors – in the “Trade in Goods – Foods and Agricultural Products Zone”, in order to introduce to event attendees food and drink produced either in Macao or in Portuguese-speaking countries. IPIM has also organised the participation – in the “Trade in Services – Integrated Services Zone” – of local enterprises that provide professional services for Portuguese-speaking markets. The aim is to promote Macao’s platform role.

The Cultural Industry Fund has arranged for an additional 18 Macao enterprises to participate in the event, in order to promote and facilitate business matching between Macao's cultural industries sector and counterparts outside the city. These Macao enterprises display – via the “trade in service” and “quality life” sections – their products and designs relating to multimedia production, cultural events and performances, and fashion design.
