The Electoral Affairs Commission for the Chief Executive Election will hold, on 10 August – for those accepted as candidates for the Chief Executive Election – a session for them to give a presentation, and take part in a question-and-answer session, thereby explaining their respective election platform.

The Commission President, Ms Song Man Lei, gave the information to reporters after a Commission meeting today that discussed preparations for the Chief Executive Election. The poll will be on 25 August.

At the 10 August session, all the members of the 400-seat Chief Executive Election Committee would be invited to attend the session. Attendance would not be mandatory for the members, noted Ms Song.

The session, starting on 10am, would be broadcast live. The Commission would have in place arrangements for any attendees with special hearing needs.

According to the schedule of the procedures for the Chief Executive Election, 10 August marks the first day of the campaigning period.

Ms Song said additionally that the nomination period for the post of the Chief Executive would end on Tuesday (23 July). The Commission would assess, in the two days after that, whether persons nominated had met the criteria for eligibility. It would announce its respective decisions in line with dates set out in the schedule of proceedings for the Chief Executive Election process.

As of Thursday evening (18 July), a total of 13 people have requested nomination forms from the Electoral Affairs Commission for the Chief Executive Election. Four people also requested the complete list of contacts for the Chief Executive Election Committee members. But one such person decided to return the contacts list to the Commission.
