The Consumer Council continues to improve its supermarket price survey work, after reviewing on its work in recent years, price changes cycle and frequency, as well as listening to consumers’ suggestions, the Council started to collect price data from the same supermarket twice a month, this will further increase the timeliness of the survey report.

8 survey reports to be announced monthly

The improved supermarket price survey work will be carried out 8 times a month, the Council will collect prices from over 40 markets in 5 parishes in the first half of each month, over 200 price data will be collected on the collection day and used in the “Supermarket price survey report” for consumers’ reference and comparison. Consumers may use the “Supermarket Price Watch”, “Shopping Basket”, “Smart Choice” and other functions such as price difference percentage to compare prices and promotional offers of each supermarket to make the best shopping choice. The Council will repeat the same 4 price collection work in the second half of each month. The Council indicates that the increased frequency of its price data collection work will help to enhance the practicability and timeliness of the survey report.

About 70 percent of the most used daily goods surveyed will be used to compare with the price data collected in the previous report, consumers will be able to know about price changes and percentage change of each supermarket. Moreover, the Council will make changes to its price collection work according to the market, such as adding seasonal products, for the provision of timely and efficient information to consumers.

1st price survey of April on Fátima Parish now available

The first price survey of April included 14 supermarkets in Fátima Parish, consumers may access the data of each survey report on the Council’s website, “Supermarket Price Information Platform” app available on both iPhone and Android platforms, and the Council’s official WeChat account.

The “Supermarket Price Survey” is also available for free at the main office of the Consumer Council, and local libraries of the Cultural Affairs Bureau.

The Consumer Council conducts its local supermarket price collection work for the implementation of Section 2b), Article 10, Law 4/95/M of 12 June, to enhance the transparency of product price at supermarkets.
