Starting from today, registration for free-of-charge COVID-19 vaccination under Macao’s vaccination programme, is open to non-resident workers.

Non-resident workers can make an appointment online in order to receive either of two vaccines currently available in Macao. They are the inactivated-type vaccine produced by Sinopharm, which will be available to non-resident workers from Wednesday (10 March); and the ‘mRNA-based’ vaccine developed by BioNTech, which will be available to such non-resident workers from Sunday (14 March).

The latest step was announced by the Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre during its regular press conference held on Monday (8 March).

Currently, inoculation against COVID-19 as made available to the general public, can be accessed at 12 venues across Macao. Up to 5,000 people can be vaccinated a day. Of the daily aggregate, a quota of 4,000 vaccinations are reserved for Macao ID holders, and the remaining 1,000 are for non-resident workers. The daily quotas are subject to review in any manner deemed to be timely.

As of 4pm on Monday, a total of 21,840 people had received a dose of COVID-19 vaccine in Macao. Of the aggregate, 19,771 people had received Sinopharm’s jab and 2,069 had received the BioNTech vaccine.

As of that time, an additional 49,258 people had been able to confirm an appointment for initial vaccination. Of those, 43,067 people had reserved a booking to receive the Sinopharm vaccine, and the other 6,191 people made an appointment to receive the BioNTech vaccine.

As of Monday, Macao had not recorded any locally-infected COVID-19 case for 344 consecutive days.

Macao has dealt with a total of 48 confirmed COVID-19 patients since the start of the pandemic, and has had zero COVID-19-related deaths and zero infections among medical staff.
