Macao has so far received a total of 600,425 doses of COVID-19 vaccine – produced respectively by Sinopharm and BioNTech – and it has been made available for vaccination of members of the public.

The ‘mRNA-based’ vaccine developed by BioNTech and its partner in China, Fosun Pharma, will be available for vaccination use from Wednesday (3 March). A first batch of 100,425 doses of that mRNA vaccine was delivered to Macao on Saturday (27 February).

On Sunday (28 February), a second batch of Sinopharm’s inactivated-type vaccine – this one amounting to 400,000 doses – arrived in Macao.

As of 6pm on Sunday, a total of 14,426 people had received a first jab of the Sinopharm vaccine. As of that time, an additional 32,050 people had been able to confirm an appointment for initial vaccination.

A vaccination appointment can be made via https://eservice.ssm.gov.mo/covidvacbook. For details of the vaccination programme, please refer to a dedicated webpage: https://www.ssm.gov.mo/apps1/covid19vaccine/en.aspx.

Macao has sourced in total three types of COVID-19 vaccine. In addition to Sinopharm and BioNTech vaccine, it is anticipated that the ‘replication-defective adenovirus vector vaccine’ developed by AstraZeneca will arrive in Macao in the third quarter of 2021.

It is anticipated that a second batch of BioNTech vaccine – amounting to about 100,000 doses – will arrive in Macao during March.

Macao has sourced in total a supply of 1.5 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine. Of the aggregate, Sinopharm, BioNTech, and AstraZeneca are each providing 400,000 doses. A further 100,000 doses of vaccine for emergency use had been delivered to Macao previously. The balance of 200,000 doses of vaccine had been guaranteed under the World Health Organization’s “COVID-19 Vaccine Global Access Facility” initiative.
