The 25th Macao International Trade and Investment Fair (25th MIF) and the 2020 Portuguese Speaking Countries Products and Services Exhibition (Macao) (2020PLPEX) will be held at The Venetian Macao from 22 to 24 October. This year’s events will introduce more “online exhibition” elements, including online expo, online matching sessions, online promotion seminars, and live streaming, to improve effectiveness through online and offline synergies. In addition, the number of exhibitors at the Macao SME Pavilion of the 25th MIF has multiplied, with 40% of them being first-time exhibitors.

Integrating online and offline services to make perfect match

Due to COVID-19, this year’s events will break through geographical restrictions by offering an optmised online expo, which function as a communication platform for exhibitors all over the world, especially for those who cannot physically join the events. The organiser will also arrange online business presentations for SMEs and assist them in digitalising their products and business. Meanwhile, an online business matching area equipped with online video conference rooms will be set up in the Macao Pavilion, in an effort to provide one-on-one “online-offline” and “online-online” business matching services for traders. Furthermore, in order to facilitate business matching, the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) has developed a mobile application Scan2Match, which allows users to browse the matching schedule anytime.   Before every business matching session, users simply need to scan a designated QR code, and relevant records will then be stored in the app. The exhibitor list is also available on Scan2Match, in a bid to enable quick matching for participants. In the meantime, with real-time data and questionnaire, it also allows the organiser to keep track of matching progress, obtain users’ feedback, and enhance quality and user experience. There will also be live streaming interactions at the venue to offer even more channels for exhibitors’ promotion.

Creating business opportunities with SMEs

The 25th MIF brings together SMEs to create business opportunities against the backdrop of the coronavirus epidemic. The number of exhibitors at the Macao SME Pavilion has increased from double-digits last year to over 100 this year, with 40% of them being first-time exhibitors. The 2020PLPEX will set up the “Portuguese-Speaking Countries Products Exhibition Zone” for exhibitors from Portuguese-speaking countries, who are not able to physically join the exhibition, to showcase their products at the venue.

The MIF, as a local branded exhibition for investment and trade promotion, has been endeavouring to facilitate multilateral trade. The PLPEX, as an exhibition to showcase and promote products and services of Portuguese-speaking countries, has been advancing Macao’s development of platform between China and Portuguese-speaking countries and the “Three Centres”.
