Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that there were 9 enterprises engaging in gaming activities in 2019, a decrease of 1 year-on-year. Total receipts of the sector dropped by 2.8% year-on-year to MOP296.09 billion, with gaming receipts (MOP292.34 billion) falling by 3.5%; however, interest receipts (MOP2.71 billion) leapt by 414.9% on account of an increase in interest received from deposits and loans of the enterprises.

Total expenditure of the gaming sector dropped by 6.7% year-on-year to MOP117.79 billion, dragged down by a 17.5% decline in expenditure on Purchase of Goods, Commission Paid & Customer Rebate (MOP56.43 billion). Operating Expenses grew by 1.8% year-on-year to MOP31.95 billion, of which expenses on complimentary goods & services provided to customers such as hotel accommodation as well as food & beverage (MOP16.89 billion) and management services & contractual services (MOP6.38 billion) rose by 3.5% and 8.1% respectively, whereas those on market research & publicity (MOP3.54 billion) reduced by 17.7%. Compensation of Employees amounted to MOP22.53 billion, representing a marginal increase of 0.7% year-on-year. Meanwhile, Non-operating Expenses (MOP6.88 billion) expanded by 69.3% year-on-year owing to an upsurge of 151.4% in interest paid (MOP3.15 billion).

In 2019, Gross Value Added that measures the sectoral contribution to the economy edged up by 0.3% year-on-year to MOP205.06 billion; likewise, Gross Surplus of the sector went up by 0.3% to MOP182.52 billion. Gross Surplus Ratio (62.2%) rose by 2.4 percentage points year-on-year; Gross Surplus-Expenditure Ratio (164.6%) recorded a surge of 15.6 percentage points, indicating a significant increase in cost-effectiveness of the sector. On the other hand, Gross Fixed Capital Formation of the sector in 2019 slid by 55.4% year-on-year to MOP3.03 billion, as some large-scale tourism and gaming facilities were completed in 2018.
