Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the total population as at end-June 2020 decreased by 10,700 quarter-to-quarter to 685,400, on account of a drop in number of non-resident workers living in Macao; female population (358,700) accounted for 52.3% of the total.

A total of 1,409 live births were delivered in the second quarter of 2020, an increase of 26 quarter-to-quarter. Male babies totalled 723 and the sex ratio at birth stood at 105.4, corresponding to 105.4 male babies per 100 female babies. In the first half of 2020, a total of 2,792 live births were recorded, down by 83 year-on-year.

Mortality decreased by 19 quarter-to-quarter to 525 in the second quarter. The top three underlying causes of death were Neoplasms (220), Diseases of the Circulatory System (137) and Diseases of the Respiratory System (55). In the first half of 2020, mortality totalled 1,069, a decrease of 98 year-on-year.

In the second quarter of 2020, new arrivals from mainland China with one-way permit (386) and non-resident workers at end-period (186,427) went down by 247 and 3,091 respectively quarter-to-quarter. Meanwhile, number of individuals granted right of abode (219) increased by 52.

A total of 625 cases of marriage registration were recorded in the second quarter, down by 96 quarter-to-quarter. In the first half of 2020, there were 1,346 cases of marriage registration, down notably by 627 year-on-year.
