Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that a total of 1,392 new companies were incorporated in the second quarter of 2020, a decrease of 273 year-on-year. Newly incorporated companies operating in Wholesale & Retail Trade and Business Services totalled 543 and 310 respectively. Total value of registered capital fell by 94.9% year-on-year to MOP111 million. Companies in dissolution totalled 182 in the second quarter, and the value of registered capital of these companies amounted to MOP90 million.

In terms of origin of capital, Macao contributed MOP64 million to the capital of newly incorporated companies, accounting for 57.6% of the total. Capital from mainland China totalled MOP11 million, of which 40.2% came from the Mainland cities in the Greater Bay Area; meanwhile, capital from Hong Kong amounted to MOP10 million. Analysed by combination of shareholders, 1,181 new companies were established solely by Macao shareholders, while 55 were joint ventures between shareholders from Macao and other countries or regions.

Analysed by size of registered capital, there were 1,114 new companies registered with capital under MOP50,000 (80.0% of total), and the total value of capital was MOP29 million (25.8% of total). Meanwhile, 14 new companies were registered with capital of MOP 1 million or over, and the total value of capital amounted to MOP49 million (44.0%).

In the first half of 2020, a total of 2,438 new companies were incorporated, down by 25.6% year-on-year; total value of registered capital fell by 89.4% to MOP360 million. Number of companies in dissolution totalled 338, and the value of registered capital of companies in dissolution amounted to MOP106 million.

At the end of the second quarter of 2020, number of registered companies in Macao totalled 73,540, an increase of 4,498 from a year earlier.
