The Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre has confirmed that in the past few days five new cases of imported COVID-19 infection have been recorded, taking to 24 the tally of confirmed cases in Macao.
The 20th case – the first of the five recently confirmed – involves a 20-year-old male Macao resident who is also the holder of a Portuguese passport. He had been studying in Warwick, in the United Kingdom.
In terms of his recent movements, from 3 to 13 March, he had been in Warwick, then made a two-day trip (from 14 to 15 March) to London to visit friends. On 16 March, he travelled alone from London to Hong Kong on British Airways flight BA27. The now-patient was in seat number 64B. On the afternoon of 17 March, he took a taxi from Hong Kong International Airport to the Hong Kong-boundary departure facility of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao (HKZM) Bridge, then boarded a coach to travel across the bridge to the Macao boundary crossing area. During checkpoint formalities at the latter location, he was directed to observe – under existing epidemic-control measures in place in Macao – a 14-day medical observation at the Golden Crown China Hotel in Taipa.
A first test for COVID-19 infection, conducted on 22 March, showed a preliminary positive result. A subsequent test confirmed the 20-year-old as being infected. He is now being kept in isolation for treatment at Conde S. Januário Hospital. He is described as showing mild clinical signs of infection relating to the novel coronavirus. The patient himself has not complained of any feeling of illness.
Macao’s 21st confirmed COVID-19 infection involves a 19-year-old female Macao resident.
On 16 March, she took Thai Airways flight TG911 from London to Bangkok. She was in seat number 77G. On 17 March, she boarded Thai Airways flight TG638 from Bangkok to Hong Kong. She was in seat number 35C. She travelled alone during the journeys. At around 2am on 18 March, she took a Government-chartered coach home from Hong Kong International Airport via the HKZM Bridge. During checkpoint formalities at the HKZM Bridge Macao boundary crossing area, she was directed to observe – under existing epidemic-control measures in place in Macao – a 14-day medical observation at the Golden Crown China Hotel.
An initial test for COVID-19 infection conducted on 22 March gave a positive result. A subsequent test confirmed the 19-year-old as being infected. She is now being kept in isolation for treatment at Conde S. Januário Hospital. She is described as showing mild clinical signs of infection relating to the novel coronavirus. The patient herself has not complained of any feeling of illness.
The 22nd confirmed COVID-19 infection involves a 44-year-old male Macao resident.
On 21 March, he travelled from Dublin in the Republic of Ireland, to Hong Kong, via Frankfurt, Germany. On the afternoon of 22 March, he was transported to Conde S. Januário Hospital, having been observed – while at the HKZM Bridge Macao boundary crossing area – to have a runny nose. He subsequently tested positive for infection related to coronavirus. Details of his travel history were due to be available later.
The city’s 23rd confirmed COVID-19 infection involves a 12-year-old male Macao resident, who had been studying in the United Kingdom.
On 19 March, he took Cathay Pacific flight CX254 from London to Hong Kong. On 20 March, he boarded a Government-chartered coach home from Hong Kong International Airport via the HKZM Bridge. He was directed to observe a 14-day medical observation at Grand Coloane Resort in Coloane. On 22 March, he was transported to Conde S. Januário Hospital after developing a fever. A test confirmed the 12-year-old as infected with COVID-19. More details of his travel history were due to be available later.
The 24th case involves a 21-year-old male Macao resident, who had been studying in the United Kingdom.
On 21 March, he took Cathay Pacific flight CX256 from London to Hong Kong. He was in seat number 63K. On 22 March, he boarded a Government-chartered coach home from Hong Kong International Airport via the HKZM Bridge. During checkpoint formalities, he declared he had experienced a fever within the previous 14 days. He then was taken to Conde S. Januário Hospital for further examination and subsequently tested positive for COVID-19. More details of his travel history would be available later.
He is now being kept in isolation for treatment at Conde S. Januário Hospital.
There are 14 patients in Macao confirmed currently to have COVID-19 infection and who are being kept in isolation for treatment at Conde S. Januário Hospital. The 10 previously-confirmed cases in Macao had all been discharged after receiving treatment at Conde S. Januário Hospital.
