The Chief Executive, Mr Ho Iat Seng, today called on all members of the community to continue – alongside the Government – the work to overcome adversities linked to the novel coronavirus episode, and so help to restore the city to normality.

Mr Ho made the appeal in an open letter to the Macao public. The Chief Executive also noted the city’s disease-control work has arrived at a critical and challenging phase. The Government would put all its effort into tackling that phase, with a view to safeguarding the health of the public and to maintaining public safety, he stressed.

The Chief Executive expressed his gratitude for local people’s understanding and support, and for their cooperation with initiatives taken by the Government that were targeted at protecting public health, public safety and social stability.

Mr Ho also thanked respectively medical professionals, whether from the public sector or private sector; the public security authorities; and civil servants, for their round-the-clock service in maintaining their various responsibilities. They had made a selfless contribution to Macao’s fight against the coronavirus disease episode. He added he fully understood the physical and mental burden imposed on them, being exposed as they were to coronavirus patients and people suspected of being infected.

In his open letter, Mr Ho pledged the Government would make all-out effort to ensure adequate provision of full protective gear to medical professionals and to police officers involving in front-line law enforcement work, in order to give proper protection to them as they exercise their duties.
